I had emailed the day before to remind staff to put on her glasses (Margaret Pederson). She says she doesn't need them but she really does. They forgot the glasses but brought them out soon enough. The aide held Mom upright the entire time and I thought that was really sweet. She tilts to her right side. We ended up having an amazing visit. But I so want to give my Mom a hug.

Was not happy. Was there on time and no one was there. Phoned and they said that did not have our appointment. I showed them my email confirmation and they did not know why they did not have the appointment. Had to wait in the cold and they had to wake up my mother so she was not very talkative.
Had a skype with Mom ,If we don't come to visit soon she will die of a broken heart. She has not had good days,wanting me to be there.cries and is very sad.Venta Care is doing a great job in keeping everyone safe from Covid,but we need to do something about thier mental health.Judy ,Meranda and Praveen are doing an amazing job.

It was very unorganized to where you need to go for the window visit. There should be more clear instructions to where you need to go for the window visit. The actual visit was good but too short.
I’m happy knowing my mom is receiving the best care and is being kept as safe as possible from Covid-19. I can’t wait to wrap my arms around her. So grateful for the support she is receiving from all the amazing staff. 💕
As usual, staff was very helpful and supportive. Praveen brought Eleanor down to the window for our weekly visit. We had hoped to have another inside visit but new covid restrictions prevented that. To be honest, talking directly across from one another, into our phones, was actually better for both of us. We could hear each other more clearly and therefore had a better quality visit. I find that being masked up, with a face shield, with the acrylic between us, and other folks visiting their loved ones behind us, who may also be hard of hearing, is very distracting for Eleanor. This is no one's fault. It's simply the challenging times of covid. I do hope there will be a day soon to take Eleanor outside for a jaunt down the street to listen to the birds and breathe in the fresh air. Thank you staff at Venta for trying so hard to keep our elders safe, loved and cared for.
We had a nice visit with mom, she was in a pleasant mood, laughed and joked with us. She didn’t recognize me , thought I was her brother. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Thank You staff you make these visits possible.

The visit itself is great. My dad is doing very well, so this is a testament to the great care at venta. I was very confused at my screening though, the gatekeeper kept taking my temp and said it needed to reach 36 degree threshold, I was reading 35 and was also told that a 35.9 temp they could not allow entry. This is the first I've ever heard of this. Was told this is an AHS requirement. All I could find in the CMHO orders was they were looking for elevated temps of 38 +. So still confused.
Call was right on time, and recreational aid was very helpful.

We saw Mom today (in-person visit) and she was im very good spirits (I think morning visits are better for her) and the staff allowed us extra time to visit with her. After our meeting, they also allowed a short window visit which gave my wife a chance to see her through the window as well. By her wide smile, I think Mom enjoyed our visit today. Thanks again to the Venta staff who assisted us during our visit.
Everyone at venta are true heroes. Now we need a review of visitations to see if we can get more family visitors. My dad asks about all his kids and although we do Skype everyone knows that's not enough. And when we left today my dad says I am going to cry. 1/2 hour with us is not enough for him hopefully outside visitation can be extended to at least 1 hour

I really enjoyed our visit with mom, she was waiting for us in the visiting area when we arrived. Staff was very polite and efficiently got our paper work done, and got us prepped for our visit quickly. Mom was in a good mood and she recognized us right away, that made for a more pleasant visit. Thank you staff for all the care you give residents and family during our visits! In person visits are so much better then phone calls at this point. Thank you Venta Care Center.
You guys do such a good job. It's sad though that with seniors difficulty hearing and hearing aids that we find ourselves speaking super loud in competition with the other visitors and patients. I realize that Covid is a factor but it does impact ability to communicate. Thanks for all you do.

We were very grateful to see auntie although it gave us pain to see her looking at us like we were aliens. The visit was very important to us, as auntie looked very good but at a loss to who we were. It’s sad to see what a year of loss of abnormal can do to people. It’s alway been a joy to arrive at Venta and see auntie pushing her wheelchair around, we look forward to those days again. The visits themselves are fine and I've always appreciated and respect all the staff there. When you hear the words 'I'm lonely " from your loved one that's a hard one to ignore. My Dad appeared to be sad and depressed today which hit me like a brick wall. He added no one should be alone

I’m sorry but I was so disappointed. It was so short and with a mask, face shield and distance it was almost impossible to communicate. I just don’t feel that I can provide any support for my Mom under those circumstances. Obviously the Covid protocol provided excellent protection yet I worry about my Mom’s mental health.
Mom is no longer at Venta care. I wanted to take this last opportunity to thank Miranda, Judy, Jasmine and Pravin for all their help this past year keeping me in touch with mom.
Praveen is a gem! Her update on Mum was comforting and essential to provide the rest of the family updates. We can’t thank Praveen enough for reading Mum’s favorite Bible related books that she not only cherishes but helps her with her spiritual health. I was not able to see my mom today? When I got to Venta I went through all the paperwork and sanitizing and then waited at a table when a nurse came and asked if I got her voicemail about canceling because mom had a runny nose! I did not get any message (she called wrong #)? I said if it’s just a runny nose why is she quarantined?? I don’t think that’s right, our mom NEEDS to see us kids for her mental well being! I’m very upset and think Venta is going overboard with covid and quarantine! They also said she won’t be getting her haircut tomorrow which is way overdue! I’ve left a voice message for Helen Doan !

We were attended professionally and respectfully. It's a difficult situation given the current rules for visiting ones parents. Very stressful for all parties most importantly the resident who are feeling abandoned and lonely. Given all the sanitary protocols in place, the existing visiting restrictions should be revised. I visited mom today, she seemed fine but distracted and couldn't concentrate. The staff was very pleasant and helpful! The entry protocol's are a bit tiring, the entry staff member was a bit harsh in her instructions today, telling me to sit and wait! when I got up after filling out the sheets of paper with the covid questions. Maybe she was having a bad day, now I'm having a bad day as well!!
I appreciate the effort everyone has gone to make access to our loved ones easier it was great to see mum face to face.

Was AWESONE to see my mom again in person. It was hard for her to hear me with the mask on , and the shield probably muffled my voice as well. I asked if i could take my mask off since i had the shield on, but was told no, so that was trying.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, however, disappointed that we still can't hug mom. Now that most of the residents have been vaccinated, and hopefully the staff, why is there still the need for visits to be in this "prison-like" environment? Mom is very confused about how and where we visit, and would much prefer to be in a lounge type area.
It was so nice to see Dad in person. He appears to be doing well and we look forward to future in person visits.

we had our 1st in person visit with mom since window visits in Sept-Oct. Skype has been great to keep us in touch with our loved one but in person is special. I was very happy to be able to see my mother for the first time in almost 8 weeks. I understand the need for a designated area to visit your loved one, but for the emotional well-being of my mother, I would so much prefer the designated area be somewhere INSIDE the facility such as a lounge area - it felt like I was visiting my mother in prison!
I can't express my thanks enough for all that the staff has been doing thru these Covid-19 times. I am so thankful my dad calls Venta Home.

Peggy had trouble with speech and engagement during this Skype. The Rec Asst was very helpful in helping Peggy try to speak and participate. We really can’t say enough about the role of the RAs in these virtual engagements.
Saw mom today, it’s been a long time since this last lockdown started. The number of times you have to disinfect your hands has increased three fold! Filling out paper work , the same. Now we not only wear a mask but also a face shield, for a fifteen minute visit. It’s over kill, a mask or a shield are more then enough. I know the staff is following AHS guidelines so I comply. I’m happy that mom seemed healthy and happy! Thank you Venta staff for all your work caring for our loved ones.

Tues Feb 2: We are reading the other reviews from today - written by family members Hollis and Sharon. We totally agree with their praise of the Recreation Staff in supporting family calls. Sharon made us laugh when she wrote that she admired the fortitude of the staff in sitting through all of these calls! Praveen had lots of FORTITUDE today to support our Peggy. She used persistence to put on hearing aids, patience in coping with Peggy's requests to wipe up liquid and black marks on the floor (not there) and kindness beyond measure in her efforts to focus the call. Our virtual visit today was great! Thank-you to the administration, to Miranda, and the recreation team for making these visits possible. Mom and I really enjoyed being able to see each other in real time. The connection is terrific for keeping Mom up-to-date with the family and what is going on. Tuesday January 26: Our Skype visit with Peggy at 2 PM this afternoon, assisted by Miranda from the Recreation Department, was golden. Peggy was responsive and present in the moment. We talked about everything from kidney stones to bird feeders and had a lot of laughs. Happy visit outcomes are a result of a good communication program and the recreation people, like Miranda, who have great souls. Thank you, Venta, for making the calls available weekly again. Venta Care Centre... THIS was great to have in place after so long without 'in person' contact. Thank-you to the the management for insuring that virtual visits were able to start again, and to Miranda and her staff for caring so much about residents and their families. Unfortunately Pyna’s phone was not charged in advance and so they had the phone plugged in and the end of her bed. She was already in bed. She could not reach the phone and could not hear me (she even stated that to me) then the phone tipped over and she could not see me either. I could only see the top of her head. This was very disappointing as this was the first time I was able to call her since before Christmas. I hope this is not going to happen again. Thank you for all you do.

Tuesday, January 5: We had a delightful Skype session this morning with our Peggy. After the call was done, Lorne turned to me and said, "We would be LOST without those girls!" The people he was referring to are the women of the Recreation Staff. (I hope you do not mind being called "girls.") Today it was Miranda who graciously aided our session. For a resident like our Peggy, the Recreation Staff are the foundation on which the success of these calls rest. It was so good to see my mother again! To wait another two weeks to see her or talk to her is so cruel. She needs to see us and talk to us more often. Please change the schedule to allow families to visit, one way or another, more often. I (along with many others) have not hugged or kissed my mother since March 12! Please, please, there must be a way to allow us to visit our loved ones in a safe manner!
Unfortunately, although I had this time booked way in advance, it was not able to take place because of the shutdown. I look forward to the time I can Skype with my mother again. Hope it does not come too late and that her hearing aids are found. Thanks Miranda and Rec Staff.

Although your care worker did everything she could to help, the FaceTime call was not very successful as Mom(Mary Tucker) could not hear what we were saying due to her poor hearing and she wouldn’t look into the iPad. This communication concept is very difficult for her to understand. Mom needs to have her ears flushed out and we asked that the very least she have her ears cleaned with Qtips until the nurse can flush Mom’s ears. Daphne took mom every 3-4 months to have this done which seemed to help her hear better. Thank you Vern & Daphne Akerlund

Thank you for setting up these skype days for christmas wishes, we do realize how busy you are. Miranda is always so bubbly and happy, her and her team do an amazing job keeping us connected to our loved ones. Thank you for all you and your staff have done and continue to do to keep mom and everyone safe and happy. It was so special to be able to see and talk to mom again. Her smiles make all the difference in the world to comfort us.
The Recreation department is a 5 star team. They are always courteous and helpful and very kind to our dear Mother Tina. We are grateful to all the staff at Venta especially in these trying time Thank you!

Sunday, December 20, 2020: First, thanks to Venta and the Recreation staff for permitting these special "Christmas Calls" for all families! Second, for a couple of minutes we got to see Judy AND Miranda AND Praveen of the Rec Staff AND MJ from Nursing AND Jacki from HCA Staff. All were involved in getting our Peggy dressed for the Skype call and wearing her hearing aids. We realize that sometimes these communication times with our Peggy "take a village" to get them accomplished, but SO worth it. Third, Praveen stayed for the whole Skype session. What a godsend! She had to use psychology and charm to get the hearing aids in. Then she used psychology again to get Peggy to start to look at the split computer screen and to name the family members that she saw. All of these strategies are crucial to creating more successful communication moments. We thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts, Ken & Donna Campbell and Melanie & Lorne Campbell

Today, December 4th, we had another delightful Skype visit with our Peggy. Praveen assisted the visit today. She was right on time - even early! We had some good laughs about how much money we save on cosmetics, given the wearing of masks each day! We also had a great conversation about cooking on wood stoves: Praveen told us about her experiences in her homeland of Bali and Peggy talked about baking bread on a wood stove in Peace River, AB. We all agreed that cooking on a wood stove is difficult and often results in burned food!! We so appreciate staff like Praveen who care about sharing experiences with our loved ones at Venta. The recreation staff at Venta Care Centre does everything possible to help families to connect with loved ones. Although we were disappointed this week that we could not visit, we understand that the current CoVid-19 situation requires that extraordinary measures for safety be in place. We look forward to resuming window visits as soon as possible. Thanks to all the Venta Care Staff for your endurance and commitment through this chaotic global situation.

A complete lockdown again, all my reserves indoor visits canceled. I did get an email and phone call explaining that a staff member tested positive for covid19 and the lockdown was for the safety of both residents and staff. The residents are now being tested for covid19. Thank you staff for all your hard work in keeping our loved ones safe.

I also got a phone call because they were now testing the resident’s. I hope all staff stay safe, and thank you for all your hard work!
I was very confused, I got a reminder for the visit. But had to call to find out there was no skype call or indoor visits. Was very disappointed and am not sure what is going on!!
Todays skype visit did not actually happen. It had been switched from an in-person visit, so I assume there was a mix up somewhere. I have more visits booked so this was not a critical visit. This mix up is rare and I applaud the recreation staff for the great job that they are doing in trying to accommodate everyone!
Our visits are always very good... recreation staff are kind and helpful. Nurses are very sweet with Mum and talk to her with kindness, explain what they are doing. I have only praise for them. *****

My visit with Mom was very disappointing as she could not hear! Everything had to be repeated, very distressing for her and me. The Rec Aid did not know if batteries had been changed.

We have always had great assistance from the nurses and recreation staff. We know they are very busy but have always given Mum attention to her needs and have been most pleasant. Thank you for that. Whatever extra they can do by reading to her for a couple of minutes, with the help of her pocket talker, will be most appreciated, of course, when someone has the time. Thank you for treating Mum with kindness and dignity.

Had an outdoor visit with Dad. Visit was not very good, Dad had a hard time holding the phone so hard to hear him and he could hardly hear us. If a vehicle went by we didn't hear him at all. Not sure why we cant visit him like our last visit, in back of the bldg between the plexi glass. Of course like always, MIRANDA was great. She helped dad alot.

My brother and I visited mom today, it was a nice visit. Mom recognized both of us and I got her to laugh a little bit. I see her drifting slowly away reliving her memories and being more oblivious to the present. Staff were friendly and attentive, thank you all for you hard work in looking after our loved ones.

Our first visit was a learning experience for us. We were early as we had to drive from out of Edmonton. Judy brought mom early for our window visit. That was appreciated as it was cold and windy. Mom looked super with her new hair cut. Thanks to all Venta staff for keeping our loved ones save.

My brother and I had a lovely window visit with our Mom on Sunday. She and we totally enjoyed seeing each other in person! It is nice to see Mom happy and interested in our lives. She told us about a great pumpkin decorating afternoon that she enjoyed on Friday. She talked about the exercises and bingo activities. The Venta Care Centre staff works hard to keep residents as active, safe, and well cared for as possible. Many thanks to the Recreation staff for helping to make these visits the best quality while keeping everyone safe.

Our Mom/Peggy had a lovely 99th birthday celebration October 21st. Despite the fact that there were 17 family visits scheduled for the day, Miranda, Praveen and Kathy all stayed calm and collected. They made us feel that Mom's birthday was the most important event in the world. Thank you everyone. The visitation site in the Venta former dining room was clean, orderly, safe, fresh, and newly painted and decorated. everyone was very helpful. I get anxious about the procedure, plus the visit seemed very short. Dorine is always crying, which makes me feel bad; I feel sorry that I cannot take care of her. Not having washroom accessibility at my age is very disturbing. I have to travel across town and to find a washroom, exposes me to another public place. I realise that this virus is stressful for everyone. I will try another visit next week. I was very surprised that someone there took the time to call me to see if I made it home okay. Thank You for your concern.
Why is it eveytime we come to visit mom her hearing aid is not working!! Today there was no battery in it! The first part of the visit was a shipwreck until we got a battery in her hearing aid, then the rest of the visit was good! Please check her hearing aid it’s very frustrating for her!
